According to a report by Tom's Hardware, Nvidia can fulfill only about 1 percent of China's $70 billion order for AI chips. The report cites supply shortages that are slowing deliveries of the export-friendly RTX Pro 5500 despite strong demand.
Shortage on both sides
The finance site GuruFocus also reports a significant shortage of Nvidia chips for Chinese AI firms amid sharply rising demand. Both sources describe a shortage, but they do not provide independently verified figures on delivery volumes or timeframes.
What this could mean for German companies
If export restrictions and scarcity slow the buildout of AI infrastructure in China, this could affect the availability and prices of AI hardware on the global market. Whether and to what extent German companies are affected cannot be established from the available sources. It also remains open how reliable the one-percent figure is, since it rests on a report that the sources present as a claim.
