Poll: AI ranks last among voter priorities in the US midterms

As The Decoder reports, an analysis of exit polls from the 2026 US midterms found that AI and data center expansion ranked last among voter priorities. 56 percent of respondents rated the topic as decisive or important for how they voted.

The ranking

Government corruption led at 90 percent, followed by cost of living at 89 percent, the war in Iran at 74 percent and immigration enforcement at 73 percent. AI trailed all other topics by a wide margin.

Context

According to the report, public interest in AI has risen sharply in recent months but still lags well behind other political issues. For German companies this does not directly mean that AI regulation will play no role in campaigns – whether the poll has any effect on policy or framework conditions remains open.
