Google Cloud offers Gemini, Claude and OpenAI models on one platform

According to its own announcement, Google Cloud becomes the first major cloud provider able to offer all three frontier model families: Gemini, Claude and OpenAI's GPT models. The company said so in a blog post, as reported by The Decoder (DE).

The new models

Specifically, three OpenAI models are added: GPT-6 Astra for demanding tasks such as coding and research, GPT-6.1 Sol as a cheaper alternative with similar performance, and GPT-6 Luna as a fast, cost-efficient model for everyday use.

Access and billing

The models launch initially as a private preview for selected enterprise customers; interested companies can register via a form. According to Google, all costs run through a single Google Cloud bill and can be counted against existing cloud contracts. The models are also set to appear in Gemini for Business and Google Antigravity. Google says customer data is not used to train models.

Context

For companies that already have contracts with Google Cloud, the bundling may simplify procurement; whether it brings actual advantages depends on prices and terms, which the report does not specify. It also remains open how access will widen after the preview phase.

The Decoder also points to a tension: compute capacity that Google could use internally for its own Gemini team now serves cloud customers, including rivals. The report says this resource conflict reportedly even pushed researcher Noam Shazeer back to OpenAI; this is an unverified claim in the report.
