What does AI really cost?

The price of intelligence is falling – and we measure it daily. The AI Price Index shows what 1 million tokens cost across the leading AI models: in euros, from the official price lists, at the current ECB exchange rate. Plus the current subscription prices of the major AI services.

How we measure

Honest and verifiable – only official price lists and the ECB reference rate.

    USD list prices come straight from the provider pages (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Mistral, DeepSeek, xAI, Alibaba, Meta hosts, Cohere, Amazon).

    Converted at the ECB rate

    Every day we convert to euros at the European Central Bank's official reference rate – so the price moves even when the dollar tariff is stable.

    One comparable number

    Per model we form a blended price (input:output weighted) so models can be compared with a single figure.

    Forward-only history

    The daily values build the index history. Providers overwrite their price pages without keeping history – our curve grows from launch.

We show standard on-demand list prices, not cache, batch or promotional discounts. Open models (e.g. Llama) have no API price of their own – there we show a major host's price. We are not affiliated with any provider.

Frequently asked questions

What is the AI Price Index?

The median price of about a dozen current frontier models for 1 million tokens – in euros. A single number showing what intelligence at the frontier costs right now.

Where do the prices come from?

From the providers' official price lists (in US dollars), converted daily to euros at the ECB reference rate. They are standard list prices without cache, batch or promotional discounts.

What does “blended” mean?

Input and output tokens are priced differently. The blended price weights both (3:1 by default) so a model needs a single, comparable figure.

Why does the index move when providers rarely change prices?

Because we convert to euros daily at the current ECB rate. The euro price tracks the exchange rate – and jumps the moment a provider changes its dollar tariff.

Are these the costs I actually pay?

These are list prices. Your effective cost depends on caching, batch processing, volume discounts and how many tokens your tasks need – which we work out concretely in the AI ROI calculator.

What does ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro or Copilot cost?

The current monthly subscription prices of the major AI services — as seen from Germany — are in the “Subscription prices” section above. The €/token index above that is the developer/API view; the subscription prices are the end-user view.

Why do some subscription prices show dollars instead of euros?

Where the provider localises for Germany, we show euros incl. VAT. If the official source lists prices only in US dollars, we retain that source currency and state market and tax status separately.

All figures without guarantee. The API index shows standard on-demand list prices converted to euros at the ECB reference rate; tax is not included there. Each consumer subscription card states its source currency, market and tax status. Promotions, trials and individual discounts may differ. i6eal is not affiliated with any named provider. Model and company names belong to their owners.
