What the feature does
Anthropic is adding a feature called Personal Finance to Claude. Users can link bank and card accounts and ask questions about their finances, such as whether they spend more than they earn. According to The Decoder (DE), access is read-only: Claude cannot move, manage or invest money. The connection runs through Plaid, and Claude never sees the bank password.
You can break down spending by category and check upcoming payments. According to Yahoo Finance, Claude can flag duplicate charges, unexpected fees and rising bills. It sees balances and up to 24 months of transactions, but not investment holdings, trades, interest rates or loan terms.
Availability and privacy
The feature launches as a beta in the US for Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers. Anthropic says conversations in the Personal Finance section are not used for model training, accounts can be disconnected at any time, and no ads or sponsored recommendations are shown. According to Yahoo Finance, financial details shared in regular chats outside this section fall under your general privacy settings.
Context for German companies
For the Mittelstand, the story is mainly a signal: financial data is increasingly flowing to AI services. According to the available sources, it is open whether and when such a feature will reach Germany or the EU, and how the privacy commitments would fare under European rules. If you paste bank statements into AI chats, check your own internal guidelines first.
