What is being reported
According to a report by AOL.com, the Paris-based AI company Mistral is currently looking for contracts in the defence and security sector in Great Britain. The company, which according to the report is valued at €21bn (£19bn), wants to position itself as an alternative to providers from Silicon Valley.
As evidence, the report cites a job listing for an AI deployment strategist specialising in defence, which calls for experience working with "sovereign institutions and critical infrastructure across the UK". Mistral has also reportedly hired a so-called go-to-market executive with experience at national-security companies.
Classification
In France, Mistral reportedly already signed a deal with the French army in January to supply its technology for up to three years. According to the report, it remains open whether and how quickly a comparable contract in Great Britain will materialise.
For German companies and authorities, this can mean that the provider landscape in safety-critical areas is shifting. However, the starting position is only documented through the job listings; the report does not name concrete contracts in Great Britain. Whether Mistral actually gains a foothold in this field remains to be seen.
