iPhones of politicians hacked? Wildberger confirms spyware threat

What is known

The Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) has, according to ARD Hauptstadtstudio, warned members of the Bundestag and government officials about a possible attack with spy software on phones. According to t3n, the basis is a threat notification for Apple iPhones.

Digital Minister Karsten Wildberger (CDU) said in the ARD report that there is "a message from Apple" that certain devices may have been compromised with so-called spyware. The BSI had written to all those affected. He left open which software is involved: that is "purely speculative" and must be awaited.

Context

Wildberger did not necessarily attribute the incident to an AI attack, since spyware on phones has existed for a long time. For you as a reader this means: whether this represents a new attack vector is not established by the available information. Spyware is malicious software that collects data such as messages, photos or location data without users' knowledge. It remains open how many devices are affected and whether the warning extends to further groups.
